Safety on the Lake Is Everyone’s Responsibility

Spending a day on the lake should be fun, relaxing, and memorable—for the right reasons. By following a few essential safety practices, you can ensure that every outing stays safe and enjoyable for everyone on board.

Know and Respect Navigation Rules

The lake is shared by boaters, swimmers, anglers, and families. Understanding and following navigation markers, right-of-way rules, and posted speed limits isn’t optional. Stay alert, reduce speed near docks and shorelines, and avoid distractions so you can respond quickly to changing conditions.

Equip and Inspect Before You Launch

Before leaving the dock, check that your boat is fully equipped: a properly fitted life jacket for each person on board, a throwable flotation device, a whistle or horn, and navigation lights. Inspect your fuel levels, engine, and safety equipment. A few minutes of preparation can prevent a crisis on the water.

Protect Our Community and Waters

Safe boating preserves the beauty and enjoyment of our lake. Respect wildlife, minimize wake near the shoreline, and leave no trash behind. Together, by boating responsibly and remaining vigilant, we can ensure that every trip on the lake ends safely and with tons of fun.
